Artistic Statement

I am currently working on a series of projects based on personal writings, familial relationships, and the challenges of dealing with a world on gray scale in which those we respect the most and are more forgiving of may be the least deserving. How we can be so hard on ourselves when we are not always solely responsible for our struggles or failures. Taking responsibility does not always mean we should demean our own efforts. These pieces represent the many chapters of my story.

I frequently work from personal stories or poems; ruminations on my own life or those closet to me. Sometimes relating topics to larger philosophical discussions, and others leaving the material as each dancer’s personal experiences. I’m consistently interested in the textual value behind the visual material and will research outside writings for discussion while utilizing original material in performance.

On a visual/physical level I enjoy creating dichotomies as often as possible. Softness surrounded by the loudest, aggressive sounds or emotions. Intense athletic outbursts when the mood seems like it may surrender to a monotone personality. Providing unexpected sensory responses to commonplace movements or gestures.
